I am a self-taught artist, who has been tufting for almost one year now. While being an artist is a difficult conflict between my inner dreamer and critic, I've grown to love this process through all it's stages. It hasn't just taught me that there's beauty in a process and chasing your dreams, but also about myself.
I specialise in tufting and punch needling on canvas with a Pop art approach.
THE STORY
In memory of my late Nana, Jennifer Oli
In the of winter of 2021, I found peace and solace in creating textile art to cope with the sudden decline of my Nana. After she passed on the 2nd of January 2022, I made it my mission to stick with this craft and make her proud.
My Nana's favourite number was 2; a number that had shown up frequently in the moments leading up to her transcendence. With 22 also being a master number that represents turning your dreams and desires into reality - it only felt right to make the number 22 a big part of my brand.
The journey
October 2021
After stumbling across tufting content on Instagram. An interest in textile art is sparked.
December 2021
Hours of research and YouTube videos later, I begin with punch needling on an old makeshift canvas.
May 2022
Several punch needle pieces later, I decided to upgrade to a tufting gun and have a tufting frame built.
After creating Dawn, I discovered my love for Pop Art portraits.
October 2022
Originally known as 22 Rugs, I realised my pieces would best hung up, so 22 Pieces London was born.
November 2022
Two of my pieces, Dawn and Grace, are selected to feature in my first exhibition; The Holy Art Gallery.
December 2022
22 Pieces London attends its first market, Black Culture Market, and I sell my first custom piece.
After a short break to upgrade my equipment, two new pieces make an appearance at an event and 22 Pieces London is officially opens for commissions.
